Principal's Message
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
August 2022
The school is off to a wonderful start. There is a renewed energy making it evident students and staff are excited to be back in school. We are pleased with the return of Morning Exercise. It takes place every Monday at our 3rd grade recess area, weather permitting, and students are encouraged to wear red. Morning exercise is a great Kalihi Kai tradition and it is a great way to start off each week!
Thank you to our families who were able to attend our Open House. The large number of families in attendance was impressive and it was so great to see so many families in person. Your attendance shows your commitment to your child's education. We appreciate your partnership, as we strive to bring out the best in your child. As a reminder, Parent Teacher Conferences will take place October 26 - November 3 and are early release days.
Meal applications were sent home with students at the beginning of the year. It is important to complete and return the meal application for your child as breakfast and lunch are no longer free for all students. The completed application will help to determine if your child will be charged full price, a reduced price, or will be free for school meals. If you prefer, you can apply online at ezmealapp.com. In the meantime, please be sure to deposit money in your child's lunch account at our office if you plan to have your child eat meals at school.
For those who ordered items from our online store, the items should arrive shortly and will be sent home with your child. The store will reopen again in January. Also, please remember student picture taking day is on September 8, 2022.
We continue to stress the importance of maintaining a healthy campus. For that reason, it is important to keep your child home if he or she is exhibiting any illness symptoms. The latest updates to the Hawaii State Department of Education's (Department) COVID-19 Health and Safety Guidance can be found at bit.ly/HIDOEC19Guidance. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call our office at (808)305-4100.
Sincerely,
Marc Kawahara
